Danzal Baker, aka Baker Boy, is Yolngu rapper, musician and dancer. Baker is from Milingimbi Island, Arnhem Land in Northern Territory, Australia. His upbeat and uplifting hits include Marryuna and Cloud Nine. Some of his lyrics are in the Aboriginal Australian language Yolngu, Baker's native tongue. I recommend for anyone looking to smile. A lot of his work is about the indigenous experience in the US and representing his culture. A folk singer an activist who has been active since the 1960's in art, music, speaking and philanthropy, Cree musician Buffy Sainte-Marie sings about justice and progress (including a track I adore called You Got To Run with Tanya Tagaq, who is also featured on this list). Tanya Tagaq is an Inuk vocalist and throat singer from Iqaluktuutiaq, Nunavut, Canada. Her music is highly experimental, dark and hauntingly captivating. It uses sounds from the throat and inspiration from electronica, industrial, and metal sound. Some songs of hers include Submerged, Aorta, Retribution and Toothsayer.
