Today's post is about Venezuela. It is a follow up to this post about Venezuela.
Venezuela has been controlled by a dictator named Nicolas Maduro, who made his own congress with people who agreed with him, exiled or jailed his political opponents, held illegitimate elections and violated the human rights of Venezuelans as protected by their constitution.
More than 10% of Venezuelans have fled their country as minimum wage was reduced by hundreds of dollars/month. The country is a crisis as there are no vaccines, and much of the country's economy supports Maduro's government. The media is being stifled.
On 23 January 2019, an Interim president, Juan Guaidó has stepped up until a new president can be selected. He has been backed by the international community. I hope this marks drastic improvements coming for the Venezuelan people.
Joanna Hausmann has some updates on her home country of Venezuela, I recommend you listen.
