Today's post is about the DACA.
Quoth the DACA Wikipedia page: "DACA allows certain illegal immigrants who entered the country as minors, to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and eligibility for a work permit."
You've probably heard a lot about it, but here are the facts of this policy laid out for you.
What Daca IS
A way to allow undocumented people brought here by parents, whose decision it was not to come to this country illegally, a chance at staying here.
A temporary relief from deportation that has helped hundreds of thousands of immigrants.
A worker's permit.
A way for these people, who currently have no means of getting American citizenship, to move forward.
What Daca Is Not
A U.S. citizenship.
An excuse not to pay taxes (which all undocumented immigrants do, despite not getting benefits)
A scholarship or free-ride education. Undocumented immigrants do not qualify for federal financial aid.
Something that should be turned over. #DefendDACA

Let’s be clear: the action taken today isn’t required legally. It’s a political decision, and a moral question. Whatever concerns or complaints Americans may have about immigration in general, we shouldn’t threaten the future of this group of young people who are here through no fault of their own, who pose no threat, who are not taking away anything from the rest of us.
Ultimately, this is about basic decency. This is about whether we are a people who kick hopeful young strivers out of America, or whether we treat them the way we’d want our own kids to be treated. It’s about who we are as a people – and who we want to be.

What Can I Do?
Call in, or you can text "Resist" to 50409 and a bot will get you in touch with an official. It takes three minutes.
Keep yourself informed. Information is second only to action.
I stay informed through social media. It's not hard to get yourself informed of what's going on. Knowing about an issue, even if you already feel that you know where you stand, is so beneficial.
I should hope that the people running this country can find it in themselves to defend people who have grown up as Americans.
